Q. Can younger siblings participate too?
Everyone is welcome! Younger and older siblings not attending Loyola are encouraged to register and participate too. To register to join us, sign up here. If you sign up during the early bird registration window, Walkathon t-shirts for participants are guaranteed. If you sign up after the early bird registration window closes, we’ll make every effort to meet size preferences, but sizes may be limited.
Q. I missed the online registration deadline, but we still want to attend the walkathon!
A. No problem! You can still register on the day of the event. Just come to the Registration Station and we’ll set you up! It is $40 per participant. Commemorative t-shirts are available dependent upon availability.
Q. What time should I get there?
A. Arrive when you can, but it is recommended to arrive early to take advantage of the full day and to be part of the Opening Ceremony at 9:00 am. Registration will begin at 8:30 am.
A. Students walk laps throughout the day. Every time they complete a lap, a volunteer will mark their lap card. When students reach certain designated number of laps, they will receive a small prize.
Q. Why do I need tickets and where do I get them?
A. Only tickets will be accepted to play any game and purchase food and drinks. This makes it easier on the volunteers, who will only need to deal with tickets, rather than cash and credit cards. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at the Registration Desk. Lap walking and the prizes associated with the laps are free to all registered participants.
Q. How many tickets will I need?
A. Food and drinks range from 1 ticket for a kids’ juice to 9 tickets for other items. Games range from 2 tickets to 5 tickets to play. Food trucks do not accept tickets, however. They will accept credit cards and cash.
A. While cash and checks are always welcome, we do take credit cards as well at the Registration and Grade-Level Parties stations. We do ask for a minimum charge of $20 to help offset the fee we pay the credit card processing vendor.
Q. What happens when my child reaches the grade level goal?
A. Students who reach their grade level goal will walk away knowing they achieved a goal and represented themselves and their grade very well!
Q. Why do we need to check out? We’ll be super tired and just want to go.
A. Even if the students only walk one lap, it is important that they check out at the end of the day and turn in their lap cards before leaving. This is so each additional raffle entry earned can be tallied and added to the registrants total number of entries. We cannot retroactively add any laps reported after the Registration Station closes.
Q. Wow, I can’t wait! But how can I also help?
A. It takes a village! Volunteers are needed to make this event a great success. There are positions for everyone, from pre-planning the activities to lending needed materials to helping at the game booths. Contact us at loyolawat@gmail.com to see how you can help.
